On Sunday September 20th, Urban Perform’s team of triathletes ended their season with a very impressive triathlon! The Tri-Kids competed the swim section of the race in a lake at Race Rome. Though the athletes had been practicing in a pool all season, each and every student got in the lake and completed their swim. While some students jumped right into this new challenge, others dipped their toes in, mustered up their confidence and cautiously entered the lake to begin a very courageous swim. Each student came out of the lake confident and excited after conquering the swim. Going on to the bike and run was a breeze compared to the challenge of the swim, but it was made even more fun by the camaraderie and cheers of their teammates. As each athlete raced towards the finish line, shouts of encouragement were heard from teammates, coaches and family members. Not only did each team member complete the race, but seven students placed in their respective age group, representing the Urban Perform Tri-Kids team with pride and joy!
A special thanks goes out towards the amazing coaches and volunteers who selflessly commit to six weeks of teaching students how to swim, ride a bike and improve their running, while also instilling a practical knowledge of teamwork, self respect and dedication. After five seasons Urban Perform cannot help but to become more and more grateful for this partnership with Tri-Kids, giving students in our neighborhood the chance to become athletes.
